First reduce stress and avoid the usual indoor plant woes which usually stem from overwatering. Remove any wrapping and let the plant breathe. Give it a deep saucer and water from the bottom keeping foliage dry. Water weekly letting the soil get a little dry before watering. Next encourage root growth. Plants sleep through the slack of the year but roots awaken as days lengthen. Don t use commercial fertilizers which are formulated to stimulate top growth and flowers. Indoor shrubs get leggy from low light. As the weather warms take your plant outside for an hour or two on mild days. Begin with morning sun since even in winter too much light can scorch tender foliage. Next start leaving it out all night. Depending on the weather you can plant your well rooted shrub outside by late February or mid March. The first year feed it with a mild organic fertilizer in May and July. Do not all! ow any flowers to form and keep pinching leggy stems to encourage denser growth. By the second season your shrub should look terrific and bloom right on time. Buckthorn is a small shrubby tree. Its oval shaped leaves have small round serrated teeth. Ragsdale said a solution is several years away at best. But he thinks he s on the right track. There is no hope for chemical or hand removal Ragsdale said. Until Ragsdale s research shows promise many cities continue weed pulling efforts. This stuff has to be taken out by hand Klein said. There s no way that government could collect enough tax dollars to eradicate this stuff. Oakdale Mahtomedi and Woodbury all organize buckthorn buster efforts where volunteers work in public areas. <br><br>Source: http://news.postbulletin.com/newsmanager/templates/localnews_story.asp?a=311470&z=2<br><br>blog recomended to read: <a href= http://lan! dscapingideass.blogspot.com/ >Landscaping And How To Rectify Them</a> <div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/8187068296614653490-4718967017367582019?l=gardening14.blogspot.com' alt='' /></div>

Gardening With Charlie NoFuss Spring Bulbs McKinney Messenger

However not all spring flowering bulbs are created equal. Some require less maintenance and are more likely to come back and flower year after year. These are what I call the no fuss bulbs and here are my favorites. Daffodils You just can t go wrong with daffodils. I particularly like the small flowered fragrant daffodils often called narcissus or jonquils . The flowers range in color from pure white to deep yellow. They look great in rock gardens mixed in perennial borders and cut for indoor arrangements. Tulips Tulips have a reputation of being difficult to grow and quick to stop flowering after a few years. However what they lack in flower stature they make up for in performance and longevity. Species tulips will bloom for years in your garden with little care. Tulipa saxatilis has stunning lavender colored flowers with a yellow base. It grows to inches tall and naturalizes readily. Tulipa greigii Red Riding Hood features red flowers with striking pur! ple striped foliage. Minor Bulbs The so called minor bulbs are small bulbs that produce small flowers. They are usually planted by the hundreds for a striking visual effect. When allowed to naturalize these bulbs can create a carpet of color in spring. However you don t have to break the bank buying hundreds of these beauties to create an impact. Even or bulbs tightly planted in the right location can be lovely. Scilla is one of my favorites. This early blooming bulb looks great planted among deciduous trees or even in the lawn. The flowers appear before grasses and other perennials start growing. When allowed to go to seed the flower can multiply itself around your property. Snowdrops are the first harbingers of spring. They bloom so early that these fragrant white flowers often appear poking through the snow. Plant them among perennials that will fill in later once the snowdrops have gone by. Plant these no fuss bulbs in a sunny USDA zone to location. Shade ! in summer is okay since these bulbs go dormant by June. Work in a lit tle bulb fertilizer at planting time and keep them watered. He is the senior horticulturist and spokesperson for the National Gardening Association www. Pressure Eat it for breakfast says our Grae. Barry th over Jaya means win wardene means developing or growing Ratne means gem . In comes Stuart Broad. Colly is not impressed he stands there for a good few seconds before trudging off to the sidelines. Graeme Swann is the new man and he gets beaten all ends up with a beauty from SJ. Squeaky bottom time for England. Come on spirit of Marseille and all that. Eng Paul Collingwood is most definitely not a tactical genius as the Twenty showed. The jury is still out but if we keep winning no one will complain. ! Cricketing stargazer on st over Eng Bopara nurdles a single down to third man for the England . th over Eng Tedious but I guess when overs are on your side it s hardly a Twenty smashfest. Jayasuriya bowls another good over squaring Colly up with a couple of deliveries turning from leg stump. Just a single from the over. Luckily Jayawardene s throw had no power or accuracy otherwise it was curtains for the England captain. Fernando lets rip an mighty roar for a leg before appeal but is turned down by umpire Koertzen. Out comes Ravi Bopara. Eng th over Eng It s hardly pulling teeth but this isn t pretty viewing. Colly mistimes a cover drive for two more runs as England close in on the . Lots of Sri Lankan surnames seem to share elements like Jaya wardene karatne and so on. th over Eng Four more runs from that Fernando over. England are rebuilding albeit slowly. Shah and Colly need to continue rebuilding if England are to win. Get to and England will move into th! e favourites category. Looks like Shah is seeing it alright judging b y that drive. Strangely enough his appeal is turned down although there is turn for him on his track. Not a bad over just two runs from it. Strange and slightly anti climatic. This one s coat is much darker than Dog s but lighter than Dog s. That s Maharoof s overs a very tidy spell of . th over Eng Lasith Malinga comes on for his first foray in the innings. It looks as if he s had a little top up with the blonde streaks. Sangakkara chases it off and play continues. Malinga has a more than useful lbw appeal turned down replays suggest he was a little unlucky. th over Eng Colly is clearly not enjoying this. He looks clunky and out of sorts lacking the fluency we usually associate with the England captain. Another top over just two runs conceded. Since yesterday s wonderful win mate all day has been drinks time. Bring in Mascharenhas and let Bell open with Mustard. The batsman is unmoved and so is umpire Asoka de Silva more importantly. Replays and Snicko vindic! ate the umpire s decision. Vaas looks annoyed as if he thought the England captain had got a nick on that. England need from overs. th over Eng Collingwood collects two runs with a glance down to fine leg off Maharoof. It s hardly edge of your seats stuff but there s plenty of tension out there. Belly is looking in top nick. I blame you Pranners for Bell s wicket. Hang your head in shame. The Sri Lankans are loving this the English are not. Owais Shah the hero of the last match is the new man at the crease. Eng th over Eng Maiden over from Fernando. KP s not happy with that decision. He plays a similar shot two balls later this time through cover for two more runs. Belly is looking in top nick. It s the kind of shot that makes you go weak at the knees. Kevin Pietersen is the new man and he plays an absolutely gorgeous shot through mid wicket for three. th over Eng Mustard absolutely leathers a long hop from Maharoof to the cover boundary. Interesting tactic! al field placing from Jayawardene who has two strategically placed mid wickets for Bell. Rare rugby interruption but Fiji have just scored I nearly fell off me chair Back to the cricket. A lone spectator sparks up a firecracker great scenes. Just imagine doing that at Lord s. The change is because the match has been shortened because of the earlier rain breaks. We ll try and keep it down a bit. Would you be ok with a quiet bit of Bertrand Russell or someone. We ll lock Nietzche out he s always so loud. We should be able to get without too much drama . Al Oxford Fantastic thought provoking stuff about the valour of walking. Its so hard to find stimulating well balanced arguments halfway around the world. It s all over Sri Lanka are all out for . Fittingly Graeme Swann leads England off to pleasant applause. Also interesting to note that all nine wickets bar the run out fell to Nottinghamshire players. And before you get all pedantic on my backside Stu Broad is counted as a Notts player. A top innings considering his team s situat! ion when he came to the crease. This ninth wicket partnership has fashioned runs off balls. Paul th over yes but this brings us back to which socialisation is taking place here. th over Sri Lanka Intelligent batting from Dilshan who s making the most of a not very good situation. Lots of good running turns ones into twos from that Collingwood over. I do wish MM live text wouldn t keep saying Swanny . Dilshan moves to . Unnfortunately for Chaminda he s a couple of inches short and the third umpire gives him his marching orders. New man is Dilhara Fernando. Dilshers has one one day ton along with nine half centuries to his name. Maharoof reluctantly departs back to the pavilion. Wicket maiden for Swann. Another ball falls just short of Shah but he can t stop the run much to Broad s chagrin. Paul in Lancs Couldn t put it better myself Paul. Nothing of note from the over just three singles to oil the wheels of the scoreboard. Maharoof gets off the mark and brings! up the Sri Lankan ton. It s all about England at the moment. Farvee z Maharoof is the new man at the crease. Walking is not silly. Professionals who don t walk should be fined to set an example. After years of playing club cricket I ve been trying to give it up. It is too confrontational these days. All very good from the England captain. The Notts man floats up a lovely delivery first up beating Dilshan and keeper. Only Silva s right handed. And plays for Sri Lanka. Jehan Mubarak is the new man at the crease. Reckon it s Swann time. Dilshan picks up another leg side run. In reply to Steve Atkins th over I think it s great he walked. It s not easy for the Sri Lankans and Colly isn t feeling in a generous freebie mood. I can only ever remember Mike Brearley walking. I have no memory of him actually at the crease. Walking is just silly because it totally destroys the whole swings and roundabouts theory. That would only be fair after all. But Broady pulls it back with a mix of good deliveries and slower balls. Also read that ! the lunch interval may be shortened. Never heard of lunch in Sri Lanka at . However Siders regains his laser precision with a beauty which leaves Dilshan at the very last moment. And Siders has a useful lbw appeal turned down by snow face Rudi a ball later. However Dilshers swats a juicy delivery on leg stump to the boundary for a much needed Sri Lankan four. The ball is zipping about all good for England. And the interval between innings will be truncated to minutes. Bravo Sangakkarra it s great to see there are still gentlemen in the sport. The only other walkers I know are Gilchrist and Cook. There is a reserve day for this game tomorrow. I would like that lady to read me a bed time story. Lordy here comes the rain. Sorry folks RAIN STOPS PLAY. Concerning your best man quandary I would suggest asking Duckworth Lewis. If the marriage ends early he would be able to tell us who had won. England are all over the home side right now. Maybe if we invent a sport! we ll have a in chance of winning. The man is on fire wonder whether the flame haired left armer will bowl out his overs. Ian Bell will get a century. Apologies for the lapse in concentration the cricket best man quandary has really got me thinking. th over Sri Lanka Powerplay time and quite right too. It s crazy weather in Dambulla at the moment it s raining in bright sunshine. And the rain is pelting it down now. And there s a rainbow crazy tropical weather scenes. Just as the covers are being brought on the rain stops. Three runs from that over all gleaned through singles. th over Sri Lanka The groundstaff are poised by the covers so we could be in for another interruption. Siders plunders another tight over nothing to excite the batsman. Jimmy has a stifled appeal for leg before turned down replays show the ball strikes SJ above the pad. I m also sort of pleased to say there have been no dog interruptions. And he manages to beat the bat and knock the off stump out of the ground two balls later. Once again Tharanga plays dow! n the wrong line only this time it s a straighter ball. More left handed antics as Kumar Sangakkara strolls to the crease. Three singles from the over. He s on the money and doesn t concede a run. Sri Lanka are the team with willow bats and are running up and down the wicket. England are the other team. He is suitably scoffed at by everyone including Scot Dougie Brown. Next week I shall be taking candy from a crying baby. Bad news senors y senoritas rain has stopped play. More good running from the openers sees the pair ticking the scoreboard along very nicely. Tharanga guides a ball on his pads from Ryan Sidebottom through mid wicket for a couple. With regards to your moment of joy in the pub last night. I had to work a night shift last night I m an air traffic controller. Upul Tharanga nudges a ball off his hip for two runs but nothing of real note from that over. England s shirts are a slightly lighter blue than Sri Lanka s. A reader in Lehigh Acres has real problems with his two laurel oak trees. One tree s leaves have turned brown and the tree has apparently died. All of this has occurred within the space of about three months. What could be causing these problems I think they may be lightning victims. About percent of lightning hits manifest no external lightning damage whatsoever. Lightning strikes usually cause rifts large tears in the tree bark. This type of hit is most likely a direct one and is probably the most common in Florida. Woody parts of the tree such as limbs and portions of the trunk may be completely shattered. Sometimes the strike travels all through the roots. It kills the nearby ground vegetation and causes deep ferrules in the soil. In severe situations the whole tree may be completely blown from the ground or consumed by lightning ignited fire. At this time the strick! en tree is a likely candidate for insect and disease infestations. Consequently expensive treatments should not be undertaken until the tree appears to be making a good recovery. I ve heard you can remove them from their pots and store them as you would tubers of dahlias. Is this true A. Years ago people stored their plants bare root in a root cellar where they stored their vegetables. This was cold dark but had enough humidity to keep them going. Traditionally folks hung from the rafters in the attic or cellar until spring. If you prefer you can bag them separately in paper grocery bags and leave the sacks open for ventilation. Place in a dark cool place. Check your plants every month or so to see if they are getting too dry. Once spring arrives soak the roots and pot up the plants then wait.
